Web Site
Tune-Ups
At WebOkay
Internet Services we focus on
that which can and which often
does prevent a web site from
becoming as successful as it
can be. We call the technique
a Web Site Tune-Up. While we
don't claim to know all the
answers, nor do we claim
to possess the secret to
success in cyberspace, over
the years we have observed a
few often overlooked and just
as often ignored facts and
these facts are what our Web
Site Tune-Up is all about:
-
On the
Internet an individual or
an organization that can
do whatever it is that you
do faster, better and/or
cheaper than you can do
it, is only a click or two
away.
-
Competition
for the top spots on the
top search engines is
fierce, but few
commercially successful
web sites actively compete
for those top spots.
-
The search
engines need good quality
listings just as much as
good quality web site need
to be listed. More
importantly perhaps, it is
in the best interests of
the search engines
to do everything they
possibly can to try and
insure that the best, most
pertinent web sites show
up in the top spots during
user initiated searches.
-
1 visitor that
buys whatever it is that
you're selling is worth
more than 10,000 visitors
that don't buy anything at
all.
-
It takes just
as much effort to build a
successful business in
cyberspace as it does in
the real world.
These observations
led us to develop a very
simple Web Site tune-Up
strategy. We've found this to
be a very effective way to
insure that the web site
itself, does not place
arbitrary limits on it's
potential to become a
commercially successful web
site: Quite simply, rather
than try to beat the system,
we believe that your best
chance for success will be the
result of carefully
configuring your web
site, so that it can take
advantage of the opportunities
that the system itself
provides.
That's what we do
best here, and what follows
are the details of how we do
it and the fee we charge for
doing it:
Web Site
Tune-up
-
Verbiage
Optimization: While
nothing will be deleted
without your specific
approval, the first and
perhaps most important
step in turning up a web
site is the removal of all
unnecessary copy from the
most likely to be indexed
pages in the web site.
Similar to the techniques
used to create "doorway"
pages, the goal here is to
turn as many pages of the
web site itself into
"doorways" that will
perform well during user
initiated searches,
thereby leading more
traffic to the web site.
-
Keyword
Optimization:
The pages are then
analyzed to determine what
specific keywords and
phrases they will perform
best on and the results
are then used to create
the most applicable
keywords, description and
title tags for the web
site. This is the exact
opposite of how this is
normally done. Rather than
try to force the page to
perform well during
specific searches, our
goal here is determine
which searches the pages
will perform well during
and maximize that
performance.
-
Metatag
Optimization: Not all
the search engines use
them, and those that do
may use some or all of
them, but ignoring them is
not something that any
serious commercial web
site can afford to do.
-
HTML
Optimization:
Sometimes we forget the
basic simplicities of
things: the search engines
that index pages in web
sites do so by parsing the
HTML that was used to
create the page being
indexed. The result is
that pages which contain
HTML errors, extraneous
carriage returns,
unreadable characters,
etc. may not be indexed
or, if they are, may not
be fully or properly
indexed.
-
Site
Sectioning: If the
site's designer did not do
so, we divide the web site
into sections, moving the
primary pages into
subdirectories in which
they then become index
pages. While not always
possible, the primary
focus here is to try and
come as close as we can to
having each of the options
on the site's main menu,
point towards an index
page, which then serves as
a natural doorway leading
to the supporting pages
for that particular
section of the web site.
Pages which are moved are
replaced with pages that
contain a brief apology
and links to the various
sections of the web site.
This will prevent
"file not found" errors in
the event the moved pages
were previously indexed or
book marked.
-
Search
Engine Submission Analysis:
Last, but not least, we'll
manually check to see if
your web site is listed on
the top 20 Search Engine.
We'll then submit the site
to the search engines that
don't list it. Ongoing
monitoring and submissions
are available for an
additional fee (please see
our
Web Management page
for details).
While doing
portions of a site is
possible, for the best results
the entire site should be
optimized. Due to the fact
that HTML is very forgiving
and the popular web browsers
automatically compensate for
many common HTML errors, it is
possible that the pages in
your web site rely upon
factors other then the
underlying HTML for their
rendering, which means that
some web sites cannot be
optimized without the
assistance of a designer, in
the event graphics need to be
replaced in order to make them
render properly with pure
HTML.
Web Site tune-ups
are billed at our standard
hourly rate. The average per
page fee is approximately
$85.00. The investment, of
course, depends upon the
number of pages being tuned
and the amount of work those
pages require. For a free
